Peter Albani

Peter AlbaniPeter B. Albani is a criminal defense lawyer with over 25 years experience offices in all Colorado state and local courts and the Federal District Court. He has offices in Downtown Denver and Castle Rock. His practice includes representation of clients accused of a vast range of crimes from DUI, Assault, Domestic Violence, all Sex Offenses including Sex Assault, Forcible Rape, Sex Assault on a child, Sex Assault – Pattern, Crime of Violence, Drug Offenses, Theft, Burglary, and even Murder and Homicide.

His clients have included a former Colorado Governor, a Mayor, professional athletes, actors and musicians, the kings and queens of high society, the rich and famous as well as the poor and infamous. “I am keenly aware of the human condition. I bleed for my clients and their families. A criminal charge, right or wrong, is so devastating”.

Mr. Albani was born in Boston, Massachusetts, not far from Paul Revere’s house in the famed North End. He came to Colorado in August, 1977 to attend college. “I wanted to see the mountains” he’ll tell you. So he attended Western State College in Gunnison, and after that, Denver University Law School where he graduated in June, 1984. “While I love Boston, I knew was never going back. I had Colorado in my blood”.

“All I ever wanted to be was a trial attorney.” Pete says. “And although I was a prosecutor, what I really wanted to be was a defense attorney. I believe that the highest calling in law is that of a criminal defense attorney.”

He started litigating early during law school in fact. While in his second year at Denver University, he took on a string of cases assigned by the Student Law Office. He won his first state court case representing a tenant who was embroiled in a rent dispute with the landlord. “The poor guy had paid his rent and the landlord tried to evict him anyway”.

Pete followed that up by winning a federal welfare benefits case. “My client was a poor disabled woman who was accused of fraudulently obtaining welfare benefits”. His defense here served of affect hundreds of other similarly situated welfare recipients in eastern Colorado. “It’s kind of funny to look back. The Federal Judge was concerned that a second year law student who was not licensed to practice law had no right to challenge the Federal Government. Then a couple of hours later he ruled in my client’s favor”.

During his final year of law school he successfully represented a number of his classmates who were snared by ethics allegations. During his final semester, instead of going to school, he received an internship at a criminal defense firm in Anchorage, Alaska, There he took on an appeal wherein he challenged an Alaska state law as unconstitutional and won. (The State of Alaska vs. George Romero).

Shortly after passing the bar exam Pete tried his first case as lawyer. “It was a DUI case up in Boulder. Everything went my way that day and somehow we won. I felt like I had hit a home run. My reward was to get the opportunity to try a ton of similar cases”.

With each passing year he was asked to take on more difficult cases. He tried his first murder case in 1992 and won. Many more would follow. Peter has successfully defended 20 homicide cases. That same year he won his first case in the Colorado Supreme Court.

Over the past 25 years he has tried upwards of 200 cases. Pete represents all kinds of cases including ALL MISDEMEANORS and ALL FELONIES.

He handles both ADULT and JUVENILE cases.

He has also handled upwards of 100 APPEALS.

His philosophy is simple. “I try to mitigate every case I get involved in. Right or wrong, my clients are entitled to a passionate defense…not a pretend defense by someone who is removed and uncaring…but a passionate defense. As a defense lawyer, I live, eat and breathe criminal defense. I care about my clients and about their situations. I will zealously stand on guard for them. A defense lawyer’s obligations are sacred. A client’s rights have to mean something. If you are not going to give it your all, you shouldn’t get involved. My clients will never question my commitment to their cause.”
